⚠️ VALVE HARDWARE PRICE LEAK: SUMMARY REPORT
Yesterday, source code from Czech retailers (Smarty, Alza) revealed potential pricing for the Steam Machine & Steam Frame. I've been looking into it, and here is the reality. ⬇️
1. 📉 THE LEAKED PRICES
Found in the source code (converted from CZK):
• 512GB Model: ~$950 USD (pre-tax)
• 2TB Model: ~$1,070 USD (pre-tax)
2. 🧐 THE HIDDEN MARKUP
Important context: Czech retailers currently sell Valve hardware unofficially. On top of that though:
• They typically add a 15-20% markup
• Even if these prices were based on real info, the official Valve MSRP would be roughly $100–$150 lower.
3. 🕵️♂️ THE INVESTIGATION
Are these prices real? Likely no.
Since Valve does not officially distribute to these retailers, they have no insider pricing.
Furthermore, I contacted Smarty’s Customer Support directly to verify the listing. Their response was "This price is just a guess."
4. 🚫 THE VERDICT
Unless Valve has secretly started official partnerships with EU retailers, these numbers are purely speculative placeholders set high to prevent retailer loss.
Classification: ❌ FALSE
@itsdrsheriff yeah, don’t see the reason why it can’t be there. I hope they fix it or better, add a choice between regular curson and snap on units. I don’t see myself ever playing this with a non trackpad controller.
😼 MEWGENICS ON THE STEAM DECK: FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Status: Verified ✅
Is it playable? Yes.
Is it the best way to play? Nope.
The Controls:
Instead of snapping to enemies/cats, you control a cursor with the joystick/trackpad. It feels like mouse emulation rather than native controller support.
• Cycling abilities (L1/R1) works fine.
• I feel like "End Turn" desperately needs a dedicated button.
The Verdict:
Despite the control quirks, the game is INCREDIBLE. If Deck is your only way to play, absolutely pick it up. You won't regret it.
Hopefully, a patch (or mod) will add the snapping soon. 🎮
Mat Piscatella claims the Steam Machine could cost 1,000 dollars if Valve does not assume part of the costs.
"I'm glad I'm not responsible for picking. I could see $700 or $800. I could see $1,000."
He added: "I could see them going nuts and going under $700 if they want to eat some of those costs."
