Great news coming out of New Caledonia, from our partner @ZebraSharkNC@AquariumDLagons - 8 juvenile zebra sharks have been tagged & released, as part of the team’s effort to monitor & gain greater understanding into the species! 🦈
After months of taking care of these pups we are about to release them, can’t wait to discover their early stage movements and behaviors.

The breeding season has begun! Help us to identify aggregation sites! @laboratory_and
Excited to see our study out today in @ScienceAdvances! We use a data integration pipeline to evaluate the conservation role of #shark sanctuaries, and demonstrate how big data can help advance fisheries management in remote ocean regions.

#MantaMonday Did you know that the SE region is home to two giant manta ray nursery areas? The Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary & Florida’s southeast coast (Atlantic) are giant manta ray nursery areas. For more about conservation efforts at https://t.co/MNEcQle9d7.
Congrats Hawaii! Very interesting paper. We were able to find similar results in New Caledonia.
Crazy how these large animals physically able to move distances are finally so sedentary.
Huge implications for the conservation of the species.
Good start for this new database thanks to #citizenscience.
Zebra sharks in New Caledonia tend to show high residency patterns.

Great experience collaborating with schools to share our work on #Zebrasharks.
This kids are now experts in #photoID and know all about the life cycle of their new favorite shark!

A tagged giant manta ray survived its capture and release in the Hawaii longline fishery, for at least the 60 days its tag was programmed. Check out its daily movements, it makes deep dives through the day, always returning to shallow waters, with one dive greater than 1000 m!
Our ambitious idea-creating a species recovery program for threatened sharks and rays–would not have made it off the ground without Dr. Mark Erdmann. He built our team, developed relationships with the Indonesian government, established tagging and monitoring protocols, & more.
We're on @NatGeoMag - check out the story! 👇
Our first #zebrashark pups have finally been RELEASED INTO THE WILD! Kathlyn & Charlie have returned to the ocean - a huge milestone for our vision of recovering this threatened species in #RajaAmpat. 🦈
