Three nominees; Shartis Kutesa Musherure, Adonia Ayebare and Calvin Echodu with duo citizenship were approved by Parliament on the ground that they have commenced process to renounce other citizenships. What will stop Parliament in future from approving a nominee who files documents to prove, he/she has registered to sit senior six. The three should have been thrown out together with Prof. Lawrence Muganga.
Democratic Front Deputy Secretary General Deric Fredrick Namakajo petitioned Parliament to halt the vetting of Dr. @ReachDrMuganga as State Minister for Internal Affairs. He argued that Muganga’s alleged dual/multiple citizenship contravened the Uganda Citizenship and Immigration Control Act, 2009.
After thorough verification, Hon. @Thomas_Tayebwa and the Appointments Committee found that Dr. Muganga holds multiple citizenships (including Ugandan and Canadian, with unproven claims of Rwandan links). He was unable to satisfy the committee that he had fully renounced his foreign citizenship(s), as required by law for such a sensitive docket. Consequently, the Committee rejected his nomination.
The tribal sentiments and ethnic attacks currently circulating on social media are clearly intended to blackmail, intimidate, and tarnish the reputation of Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and the Appointments Committee for simply upholding the law.
.@ReachDrMuganga has broken his silence following reports that Parliament’s Appointments Committee rejected his nomination for the position of State Minister for Internal Affairs.

Newly appointed Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Sanjay Tanna, has cleared the air regarding public scrutiny over recent cabinet appointments, confirming he holds only one passport and is exclusively Ugandan.
Tanna’s clarification follows a petition to Parliament’s Appointments Committee seeking to block nominees accused of holding hidden foreign nationalities. Under Ugandan law, dual citizens are strictly barred from serving as Cabinet Ministers.
The two-time former Tororo Municipality MP emphasized that his extensive public service career required thoroughly verified Ugandan citizenship.
