“In women with one prior preterm event, both history-indicated cerclage and ultrasound surveillance are appropriate management options. The majority of women undergoing ultrasound surveillance did not require a cerclage.” in.. @SuffNatalie@kingsmedicine https://t.co/XAVg1B6iKw
Study finds about 40% of infants exposed to early antenatal corticosteroids were born at term, with associated adverse outcomes, highlighting the need for caution when considering antenatal corticosteroids.

Pregnancy can predict long-term health. It's well established that gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia predispose to long-term morbidity. This long-term study shows pre-term labour is also associated with a significant increase in all-cause mortality.

In Dec 22 the CQC inspected maternity services provided by RCHT. Below is a quote from the report.
We could not do this without our wonderful volunteers & service users taking the time to share their experience with us. Your voice is so valuable & makes a difference. Thank you.
@doctorrah I have started putting the sterile blankets we use at Caesareans into the fluid warming cupboard; if delivering a late preterm 34-37 when the neonatal team aren’t scrubbed. I would assume the theatre staff would tell be if there was a blanket warmer 🤣
@zoenelson8@ElliePalena@DodgsonJosie@HGreenhill1970 I’m not convinced there is a role for this in Cornwall. We routinely drop the drape and parents have immediate skin to skin. Potential role in resuscitation; but this happens within parental sight and our neonatal are great at delivery suite/theatre cuddles before moving baby.
Second-stage C-section more than doubles the risk of preterm delivery in a subsequent pregnancy, and the risk is greater still if this full-dilatation C-section follows a prolonged second stage of labour.

Lactate is >2mmol/L in almost half of women in labour and the puerperium, potentially limiting its utility for making decisions about antibiotics.

Huge thank you to @SisterShawnRM, an informative day. Excited to move forward in developing a breech team @rchtmaternity to provide consistent, informed counselling and safe care to women/birthing people with a breech presentation.
Insightful and pleasurable day welcoming the inspirational @SisterShawnRM to @rchtmaternity to talk about #optibreech. Developing and evolving our staff knowledge, skills and confidence to optimise safety for women/birthing people who choose to birth a vaginal breech @HLegrys
What an amazing day; learning the complexities of providing maternity care on a small island. The inter professional support for the midwife and their commitment to development to ensure patient safety was outstanding.
Spent today on the Isles of Scilly with a full complement of the MDT to carry out SIM training. The inter professional teamwork, and the passion to ensure maternal and neonatal safety is maximised on the island was exemplary, can’t wait to go back @HLegrys @rchtmaternity
