As a location scout, one of the most dramatic shifts I’ve seen in how a movie location is portrayed on screen is for The Neighborhood Where All The Houses Look The Same.🧵
I actually work in film. the reason for this is that technological advancement in digital sensors opened new ways to approach image making, higher resolution and sensitivity gives you a new baseline of what a “modern image” should feel like, it probably is closer to the human eye more than film could ever be, we can basically film using moonlight.
On the other hand, analog film constrained cinematographers to light with lots of lights, limits that made them think creatively and with more intention.
This is not to say that current cinematographers are not as skillful, digital cinematography has had just 15 years to replicate while film has decades of stylistic progress.
Film aesthetics are an artifact of the current times, just like everything else.

when it comes to design and aesthetics, it’s very tempting for tech companies to go the Apple route or Google route. we've been living in an era that is mostly derivative. instead, forge a new path and go the Kimi route. this actually feels like the future

Extremely excited to announce our first air-to-air kill of a flying moth by an autonomous micro-drone. This is a big step towards completely eradicating mosquitoes.
a year ago... gosh, we had Opus 4 and... Gemini 2.5 pro and o3? oh and gpt-4o in its finally evolved psychohazard iterations. an unruly bunch of basket cases that noone but the God's eye view could see as aligned.
@poetengineer__ when i click on add to task, i see this in the codex input bar as is gets added as a chip, i suppose this has the chat's context attached. is this not working for you?
When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.
exploring new ui ideas with pretext by @_chenglou
built a compact calendar that expands based on user focus.
useful information expands while everything else is compressed and minimized.
pretext by @_chenglou unlocks UI patterns that weren’t possible before.
here’s a spatial note-taking app where all notes and folders live in the same continuous space.
My dear front-end developers (and anyone who’s interested in the future of interfaces):
I have crawled through depths of hell to bring you, for the foreseeable years, one of the more important foundational pieces of UI engineering (if not in implementation then certainly at least in concept):
Fast, accurate and comprehensive userland text measurement algorithm in pure TypeScript, usable for laying out entire web pages without CSS, bypassing DOM measurements and reflow
@ohitscosmic@_chenglou yeah that’s basically the idea, would love to experiment this with a vision pro with eye tracking. but even with a mouse, this feels much more expressive, the hover becomes navigation and source of focus
