I don’t go here but I think we’re being too hard on a child. And are expecting her to make adult decisions in a situation that’s hard even for adults. I also think it’s normal for a child in that situation to want to appease the parent with whom she has a less secure relationship

I’m not sure what makes the Mbenenge case so ‘complicated’ for most because what he did is a perfect demonstration of abuse of power. When somebody who holds the key to your livelihood makes sexual demands, they are asking you to choose between financial security & poverty.
I can’t imagine Zeblon replying, gaslighting, deflecting and invalidating my traumatic experience as a young academic during Habib’s term. And others downplaying it because it’s “common”.

That’s not what I got from his tweet. We’ve had similar experiences with different universities, but they’re still valid regardless of where they happened and we should talk about them. Even when we’re part of the system and understand its complexities.
@Bongisa_Msutu You are completely entitled to your feelings. It’s wrong, unfortunate, regrettable, and shouldn’t be happening at all in SA! My only concern is this being presented and positioned as a “UNISA thing” instead of a sector wide issue is limiting, and unfair. Thats my concern.
