companies hiding jaggery in their "no sugar added" snack, "edible vegetable oil" in their no palm oil protein bars, lead in their no-preservative noodles

ate lunch. body turned horizontal.
what happened really?
That “I just ate and suddenly need a nap” feeling has a real physiological basis but it’s not because all your blood has rushed to your stomach.
After a large meal, gut hormones, glucose and insulin changes, parasympathetic activity, and your body’s circadian rhythm can all nudge you toward sleepiness. Bigger, energy-dense meals can make that post-meal slump more noticeable.

the main reason is whey shortage
(bear with us nerding out)
three reasons why:
1. GLP1s explosion- ozempic for e.g. you lose fat, you lose muscle, you need protein
2. every brand wants to be a part of the protein trend- chips, biscuits, bread, you name it
3. supply- whey is a by-product of cheese, cheese consumption is decreasing, so whey production down
Your body needs nutrients.
Not an imported grocery list.
Yes, blueberries are rich in Vitamin-C and fibre but guess what? Guavas have 23 times more Vitamin-C and double the fibre per 100g!
Good nutrition can be local, affordable, AND accessible!
So, the next time a health influencer tells you kale is the answer to everything, grab some moringa and make a delish chutney instead :)

Ever noticed how a baby will ignore a room full of safe, colourful toys just to crawl at full speed toward a pair of open scissors? XD
So, what’s going on here?
Sensory Explorers: Babies learn through touch and mouth. To them, a wall outlet isn't dangerous but it’s just an eye-level hole in the wall,
causing curiosity.
Fine Motor Obsession: Developing the "pincer grasp" around 8–12 months drives them to test their new thumb-and-finger grip on tiny objects, from coins to scissor blades.
Risk Assessment is almost zero: The brain's risk-evaluating center (the prefrontal cortex) takes decades to mature. At this stage, they lack any internal mechanism to foresee danger.
And, what might help?
Telling your baby "no" verbally doesn't stay with them because they lack impulse control. It's better to baby-proof your home. Lock down cabinets, plug outlets, and let the physical barriers do the heavy lifting so you can actually breathe.
Saying "don't touch" all day drains everyone. So, set up one completely proofed room or play area where everything is fair game and you can drop your guard.

@zabriskieepoint the little chair makes the whole room feel like it belongs to her now 🥹
can't wait for her to grow up and love books as much as her parents do (although she might consider getting a shelf first XD)
@0xtobiet_ real honestly. we tend to hustle so hard for the future that we end up ruining the exact thing we need to actually live it.
a bad hospital bill can humble anyone real quick.
“20g protein for your daily intake” sounds great.
Until you turn the packet around and find: Edible vegetable oil (Hydrogenated vegetable oil), Liquid glucose
Fun fact: Palm oil IS an edible vegetable oil, but using a vague term doesn't tell you which vegetable oil you're actually getting. Something to think about.
A 2024 paper in the Brazilian Journal of Health Review discusses how partial hydrogenation can produce trans fats and their association with cardiovascular risk.
And liquid glucose? It’s still glucose. WHO classifies added glucose as a free sugar and recommends limiting free-sugar intake.
If brands want us to make their products part of our daily diet, maybe consumers deserve to know exactly what “daily” comes with.
20g protein is worth noticing.
But so is everything that comes with those 20g.
Please read the ingredient list. Not just the front of the pack.

@oasishealthapp sunflower oil brands literally built an empire in India pitching that is light and heart-healthy, yet under real heat stress, it degrades faster than rice bran, and coconut. interesting honestly
