My uncle made a smug comment at Thanksgiving saying, "Men built the roads, the bridges, and the skyscrapers. Women just got to sit back and enjoy it." My grandmother quietly set down her fork and said, "And who carried, birthed, nursed, fed, clothed, and kept alive every single one of those men while they were building those roads? You didn't build civilization alone, Bob. You just built the walls after women built the people." You could hear a pin drop in that dining room.
