Striking is always a last resort. It is not enjoyed, it is endured. It is a sacrifice made of desperation and determination. The rallies, the chants and the solidarity carry us through it, but it is never a choice taken lightly.

Solidarity always with all striking workers, who deserve better. The teachers I work with every day are resourceful, dedicated, caring and highly skilled, but they are also on their knees because of overwork, understaffing and underfunding.

I've been out of academia for over 18 months but it's clear nothing has changed - solidarity isn't sacrificing the health and stability of younger and overwhelmingly minoritised academics for the sake of pensions they will never see.

For the last few years I have been involved with supporting @UKLingOlympiad, first in logistics and more recently as Treasurer. We run a linguistics competition for high school students, and take our top students to the International Linguistics Olymiad.

Happy to chat more about responsibilities, but broadly I arrange the end of year accounts, balance the books, arrange payments to and from our accounts, and liaise with the chair on these. Time commitment isn't huge, and it's straightforward.
