🚨 The Kenya Editors Guild strongly condemns the brutal assault on journalists covering today's Ol Kalou by-election at AC Primary School polling station. The attack left @TheStarKenya photographer Enos Teche assaulted, an @ntvkenya cameraman beaten, and another journalist robbed of her phone at gunpoint.
Just yesterday, the Kenya Media Sector Working Group warned of escalating threats to media freedom ahead of the 2027 General Election. Today's attacks are a disturbing confirmation of those fears.
We call on the IG to ensure immediate, independent investigations and hold every perpetrator accountable. Violence against journalists is an attack on press freedom and the public's right to know.

Make Ballots, Not Money, the Determiner in Elections - NCCK to IEBC
Money is presented as the dominant driver of politics, determining who can run, who gets to win, and whose interests are served after elections, the National Council of Churches of Kenya has warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
The message was passed during a consultative meeting between the NCCK and IEBC Commissioners during which the NCCK decried the efforts by political leaders to hinder the implementation of the Election Campaigning Financing Act over the last 13 years.

We are seeing what happened in the 1990s depicted, when the likes of (Reverend Timothy) Njoya were beaten, and the likes of (late ACK Archbishop David) Gitari were threatened. The late Bishop (Alexander) Muge paid the ultimate price. So, are we going to those dark days? And what is this that people are looking for? - @KenyaNCCK Chairperson Elias Agola.

@KenyaEditors Kindly point out the key points of disinformation on the Finance Bill / Budget (eg mobile phones - is the total taxation going up or down?)
@David1Mutai@SokoAnalyst@MillieChero If the government is or intends to use housing levy to service loans, then the HOUSES were never the need
It means the government is getting money through false pretences - a criminal offence

CONDOLENCES ON TRAGID DEATH OF LEARNERS AT UTUMISHI GIRLS ACADEMY
PRESS RELEASE
The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) is deeply saddened as we pass this message of condolence to all parents and families of the 16 young students who passed away in the dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy earlier today. We assure you of our prayers that God will comfort and console you as you go through this painful and difficult period full of questions and emptiness. We are also praying for all those who were injured, physically and emotionally, for quick and complete healing and recovery.
The tragic death of these young learners is heartbreaking reminder that neglect of stipulated standards by government officials has very expensive consequences. The failure to enforce school safety standards and architectural requirements to ensure disaster and emergency readiness often results in devastating loss of human lives. For how long will the same speeches and promises and commitments be made after learners perish in fires without follow-through actions?
We remind all the officials neglecting their duty of the warning God has given in Psalm 7: 15 – 16
He wo digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made. The trouble he causes recoils on himself, his violence comes down on his own head.
The pain you cause to families will come back on you.
On their part, we implore the investigative organs to undertake thorough investigations to ensure that all individuals who contributed to the tragedy at Utumishi Girls Academy through their commissions or omissions face the requisite legal consequences. This must not be another anecdote in our history, rather, it must be a turning point when the nation says enough is enough and takes action to protect learners in school environments.
Signed on this 28th day of May 2026 at Jumuia Place, Nairobi.

This suspicious numberless van was reportedly spotted on Thursday in Kiambu and again yesterday near Nderi Primary School. According to reports from the area, the occupants wearing hooded masks allegedly attempted to forcibly pick up two Fairlawn Primary School children at around 6AM on Thursday. The children raised an alarm, forcing the van to speed away.
Yesterday, a concerned resident managed to capture a photo of the van and its driver.
Parents are urged to remain extra vigilant, escort young children where possible and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. Please share widely to help keep our children safe. And if you see these kidnappers... matchbox is 3bob..
