It isn’t fair to taxpayers to foot the medical bills of those who want to use meth/heroin/crack etc
@robzolkos@dvassallo TLDR since the ACA demands insurance compnys can charge premiums at a maximum of 120% of the total claims they take in, they have no incentive to reduce the price of claims. In fact, they have incentive to get it higher so they keep more $$ (20% of 200 is higher than 20% of $100)
@dvassallo It’s misleading. The ACA stipulated that health insurance companies can only keep 20% (sometimes 15%) of their revenue for profit/expenditures and the rest must be paid out to claims.
Thus, UHC created Optum n moved all their non-insurance activities that make loads of $$ there
@farid___jalali If you only make $150 off an $1850 bill, why don't you offer the procedure for $150 cash? That's a fraction of most people's deductibles, and it's what most psychiatrists seem to do.
