Yes, of course he's a criminal, a fraud, and an asshole. That doesn't really set him apart from any other President in my lifetime. But never in history has the US had a President so overtly retarded.
@robreiner We already tried letting the *unconvicted* felons have a go, that didn't work too well either. If there's ever to be any hope for a future for American democracy, it needs to be a future without Democrats *or* Republicans.
More and more, the people I encounter struggle mightily with sentences of more than one clause, and become confused and angry at the sight of a counterfactual. Maybe we shouldn't have given up on trying to teach grammar, logic, and rhetoric.
which will see the French Revolution not as it happened, nor as they would like it to have happened, but as it would have happened, had it taken place in the days of the Machine.
And in time there will come a generation that had got beyond facts, beyond impressions, a generation absolutely colourless, a generation seraphically free from taint of personality...
There's nothing awesome here, not a damn thing

Reality is ~20% of people who really want what Dems want, ~20% who really want what GOP wants, and ~60% who wouldn't shed a tear if they all disappeared tomorrow — as long as we don't get left with just *one*.
A party has to project enough strength to be worth supporting, while simultaneously being able to point to an enemy strong enough to explain their persistent failure to achieve their goals. Thus the illusion of the US constantly being 50±1% Democrat and 50±1% Republican.
"Each side is, indeed, quite alive to the cheap quality of the adversary's Unselfishness and of the false position into which he is trying to force them; but each manages to feel blameless and ill-used itself, with no more dishonesty than comes natural to a human."
So a polity using a voting system with independence of clones could rid itself of the numerous evils of political parties. And that is why you will never have such a voting system.
Political parties are a hack around plurality vote's vulnerability to clones (whatever broad ideology runs the *fewest* candidates relative to its popularity will win, so strongarm the number of candidates down to one).
