The Government is not moving to ban U16s from social media. The National Party is.

New Zealand First understands and agrees with the intent of the law change - no one is more concerned and shares the anxiety that parents are feeling about this issue - but we will not be supporting the progression of legislation to ban social media for under-16s.

We have communicated our concerns to National over the past year. Our stance has not changed.

We have been concerned with the proposed legislation and the direction and slippery slope that legislation like this will inevitably take our country.

The fact is, no matter how laudable the intent is of introducing laws to address this serious issue, there is no method that would fulfil that intent without banning VPNs or the use of digital ID to enforce the law.

This has been proven with the colossal failure of Australia bringing in similar measures that National want to bring in now.

This would lead to a soviet era outcome that would be guaranteed to take New Zealanders’ freedoms and privacy away.
New Zealand First will never support this.

Ultimately, we as a country need to decide whether it is the right path for any government to take over the responsibility of parents, and the expectations that parents have the rights and responsibilities to make decisions for their own children.

Of course government can play a part in making our society safer, but it should never be by totalitarian overreach or at the expense of those parental rights, nor at the expense of the freedoms and privacy of the rest of the country.

You can learn a lot about people by who they choose to lionise as heroes. A bunch of Marvel stars have decided to campaign for the release of Marwan Barghouti, a Palestinian convicted in 2004 of five counts of murder (for the deaths of four Israelis and a Greek Orthodox monk), one count of attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, and membership in a terrorist organisation. There was not enough evidence to convict him of another 21 counts of murder.

I could say a lot. I could talk about how Marvel was founded and heavily shaped by Jews, like the American comic book industry more broadly in the 1930s-40s, partly because mainstream publishing and advertising industries at the time often excluded Jews, and just like other industries and institutions including arts organisations and hospitals, that were set up by Jews because they were discriminated against elsewhere, they are now being corroded by antizionism and Jews are being stigmatised and excluded again.

These young people are real heroes, sacrificing everything for freedom and justice, not cosplaying fools like those actors.

Saudi Arabia has removed the last remaining examples of antisemitic content from its school curriculum, according to a new study examining 136 textbooks used during the 2025/26 school year.

Major changes include removing descriptions of Zionism as a “racist European movement,” dropping claims that Zionists were responsible for the 1969 Al-Aqsa Mosque fire, and reducing material promoting armed religious conflict.

Older Saudi textbooks had taught students that Jews were apostates who had “sold their souls,” portrayed Muslims and Jews as locked in permanent conflict, and referred to Israel's creation as “The Attempt to Create the Zionist Entity.” The latter has now been replaced with the “British Mandate in Palestine.”

Oil tankers continue to be escorted through the Strait of Hormuz daily, using ship to ship transfers, routes hugging Oman’s coast and other methods.

Finnish President Stubb on Ukraine’s Wildberries Strikes:

We need to increase Ukraine's capacity for deep strikes whether with missiles or drones. The reason is very simple: it increases the cost of the war for Russia.

65% of the Russian population now wants to end this war, and hitting logistic centers like Wildberries increases it by an additional 10%.

Do I think this is sensible military strategy from Ukraine? My answer is yes, it certainly is.

The Muslim Brotherhood, with Qatar’s backing, has constructed an elaborate network of Islamic charities in Europe that raise funds to support terror groups in the Middle East.

Many of the organisations involved are registered as legal charities or humanitarian groups, allowing them to take advantage of the openness of Europe’s liberal democracies.

🛑Israeli Air Force fighter jets carried out extensive strikes today on Hamas weapons depots across the Gaza Strip, in Gaza City, the Khan Younis area and central Gaza, in response to the continued launching of kites toward Israeli communities near the border.

A security official said that, following directives issued yesterday by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the IDF was authorized to escalate its strikes in Gaza.

Under understandings with the Trump administration, the IDF had received a “green light” to eliminate terrorists posing an immediate threat or actively engaged in terrorism. However, following the continued kite launches, Israel changed its policy and began targeting weapons depots and force-buildup sites that were originally slated to be addressed only at a later stage under the Board of Peace’s 15-point plan, which is ultimately intended to disarm Hamas.

The security official added that Israel notified the U.S. administration in advance of the strikes through the American coordination center in Kiryat Gat.

Uganda is close to finalizing a deal to send roughly 1,200 troops to Gaza under the proposed U.S.-led International Stabilization Force. Parliament approved the mission earlier this month. Ugandan military officials recently visited Israel to discuss the deployment.

Singapore is expanding parental support as its fertility rate hits a record low. PM Lawrence Wong announced at the National Day Rally that every Singaporean child will receive nearly S$70,000 (about US$55,000) in support from birth to age 17. Wong says immigration will still be needed, as the fertility rate is likely to stay far below replacement.

Israel's defense establishment has given the Peace Council mechanism responsible for violations 3 days to completely halt kite launches from Gaza. If it fails, Israel will act on its threats.

Katz and Netanyahu pledged that the IDF would increase interdiction operations against those responsible for the launches and evacuate populations from areas used to launch kites, drones, and balloons.
