Till er som nu säger att ”Ryssland håller på att vinna” vill jag att ni tänker på några saker:

1. Putins strategi var tre dagars krig. Han har misslyckats i snart två år. Det är en resursfråga hur det går. Det är därför väst är så tydligt måltavla för rysk propaganda just nu om att ”motstånd är meningslöst”.

2. Anfall genom väl befästa områden är svårt. Det är svårt för Ukraina men minst lika svårt för Ryssland om Putin ska försöka sig på en ”offensiv”.

3. Det ryska narrativet att de vinner har de kört från början. Och nej. Det är inte ”sant”. Ukraina har tagit tillbaka stora mängder territorium.

4. Putins mål är inte bara att ta Ukraina utan att etablera en rysk intressesfär i östra Europa (detta är klart deklarerat). Om han får ”fred” i Ukraina så ligger detta mål kvar. Då står Moldavien på tur för påtryckningar, Georgien, sannolikt Polen och Baltikum om några år. Finland förväntas anpassa sig och så vidare.

5. Detta är på många sätt ett utnötningskrig. Putin kan helt enkelt inte vinna mot ett enat väst. Därför är strategin nu i första hand att splittra väst. Det är där kriget eventuellt kan vinnas. Det sker på två sett: inför USA-valet i höst och mot opinionen i EU.
