If there really was no communication between Flyers and Ducks what sense would there be in leaking that to a reporter. Anything between now and Friday is all mind games or speculation. Just have to wait.
If there’s serious messaging about not wanting to be in Anaheim by Carlsson and his camp that NMC in year 5 is a major tipping point in them matching. The cap mess created makes it so theres no way you can contend in the next 2-3 years and then what, you end up moving him anyway?
@charlieo_conn I mean this has to help tilt things in the Flyers direction right? Less than $10 mil available to them now to sign Gauthier if they match now with no discernible way to flesh out their D core.
If Anaheim ends up matching the Flyers should have their eyes set on the Sharks the next 2 offseason for more offer sheets if this is the route they have to keep taking. You’ll never get Celebrini but could they match on Will Smith also? How about the year after with Misa?
With any offer sheet signed, there is always an inherent question: Does this player want to be here?
What must be part of Anaheim's calculus now with an AAV of this magnitude is whether that's the case with Carlsson. The more calls I make, the more I believe that's in question.
@ADiMarco25 They don’t seem sold on Drysdale, Jiricek and Bonk taking bigger roles yet so i doubt they’d be comfortable with that while also giving a big role to 21 y/o Yakemchuk as well
The $18 million question: Should the Ducks match the Flyers' offer sheet to Leo Carlsson?
A look at where the Flyers stand with Carlsson, how closely he can live up to that money, and whether the compensation is worth taking.
