@Simon_Ingari I’m not Gen Z but one time when my team lead said she was going to give I and the team a query for a task she gave us barely 1 hour before closing on Friday but we still pulled it off, I told her to also include herself in the query because she deserves it too. She was shocked
Okay this is so cool because Yorùbá language does this too. But instead of the m-prefix, we use ‘k’.
Examples:
•àrùn k’aàrùn - any type of sickness
•ìgbà k’iìgbà - any time
•òun k’òun - any thing
The original word means something different on its own, but adding that k-prefix turns the meaning of the reduplication into 'any', 'similarly' or 'and such'. Basically the same energy as kitap mitap.
Now here’s the fun part, depending on context, the vibe can shift from neutral to negative.
Like àrùnkárùn is fine when you’re listing diseases in a medical context. But if your mom says not to eat something because you’ll catch àrùnkárùn, she’s talking about nasty random diseases you definitely don’t want.
More examples where it gets negative:
- ọmọ (child) → ọmọkọmọ (badly behaved child)
- ìwà (behavior) → ìwàkuwà (bad character)
- ọ̀rọ̀ (word) → ọ̀rọ̀kọ̀rọ̀ (foul talk)
- ìṣe (act) → ìṣekúṣe (wicked acts)
- ẹgbẹ́ (group) → ẹgbẹ́kẹ́gbẹ́ (bad company)
Yorùbá has so many reduplication patterns but we’ll save those for another time.
My dad’s business has been slow, and it’s taking a toll on him. He complained to me last night and I don't know how else to help than this. He sells top-quality wood, planks, and plywood at Amu, Mushin. He’s basically your guy for building materials. Pls RT if you see this 🥹
@yabaleftonline I mean not like I believe but he just needs to link Ijebu Ode to Epe and he’s already in Lagos and it depends on which of the lekki he works in.
