Elizabeth I as the Virgin Queen.
In her left hand she hold a sieve. This refers to the Roman legend of Tuccia, a Vestal Virgin who was able to carry a sieve full of water from the Tiber River to the temple of the goddess Vesta without spilling one drop.

Just posted this stunner on Instagram (@historicembroidery) so had to post it here, too. This is the c. 1600 Devereux Bodice, supposedly given to Queen Elizabeth I as a plea for clemency by the mother of Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, who was later executed for treason
Further evidence of Queen Elizabeth I's reverence for her mother Anne Boleyn's memory.
On New Year's Day 1563, she received a prayer book with the coat-of-arms of herself and mother Anne Boleyn on it from William Cecil.
