The UN Security Council has expanded sanctions beyond the AFC/M23. Along with AFC/M23 leader Corneille Nangaa, it also sanctioned commanders from the FDLR, ADF, and Twirwaneho, signaling that the UN now views the crisis in eastern DRC as involving multiple armed groups not just the Kinshasa–Rwanda/M23 conflict.

What do these UN sanctions mean? Those listed now face a global asset freeze, an international travel ban, and an arms embargo. All UN member states are required to enforce these measures, making it much harder for them to travel, access funds, obtain weapons, or conduct international business.
