最初に川下直広さんの演奏を目の当たりにしたのは90年代、市川のりぶるでのフェダインだった。興奮して、見ず知らずのお客さんのポップコーンを食べてしまった記憶がある。馬鹿ですね。
十年前にわけあってひと月ほど入院して、退院が決まったら齋藤徹さんから「バド・パウエルを聴きましょう！」。なぜですかと聞くと「元気になるでしょう」と。それも奏功したのかどうか、退院翌日、新宿ゴールデン街のナベサンに川下直広さんのソロを観に行った。その場で「動画を撮ってほしいんだよね」と頼まれ、全13曲。どれを聴いても川下さんの音だ。

サックス奏者の川下直広さんが2026年6月25日に逝去されました。自身のユニットやソロ、そしてフェダインなどで豪放でありながら歌心を感じさせる一本筋の通った演奏をいつも聴かせてくれました。数々の素晴らしい演奏をありがとうございました。心よりご冥福をお祈りします。
