Open Letter to Hon.Joshua Chinedu Obika Member Representing Abuja at the House of Representatives

Honorable Joshua Chinedu Obika,

As a youth leader in Abuja, I frankly express what many of us feel but rarely say publicly: your tenure has fallen short of addressing the needs of young people and reflecting the diversity of our constituency

Abuja is home to a dynamic and restless youth population, yet there has been little evidence of deliberate, youth-centered policies coming from your office. Unemployment, skill gaps, and civic disengagement persist, while other representatives across the country are taking bold steps to invest in their young constituents. Here in the FCT, we see more rhetoric than tangible action.

Equally disappointing is the lack of inclusive representation. Abuja is Nigeria’s capital, a city that symbolizes our national diversity, yet your engagements rarely reflect the religious and cultural balance that makes this city unique. Too many young people, especially from minority faith communities, feel invisible in your representation.

A representative who does not reflect the voices of the youth and the diversity of the people risks being out of touch with the realities on ground. History will not be kind to leaders who ignore the present challenges of their generation.

It is time to move beyond token gestures and empty promises. We need clear youth empowerment initiatives, deliberate interfaith inclusivity, and regular accountability to those you claim to represent. Anything less is a betrayal of the mandate entrusted to you.

The time has come for us to take power. We the youth need to wake up to fix our country ourselves

During our courtesy visit to APC Youth Leader FCT Hon Taiwo today, his words of encouragement were a reminder of the journey ahead. He assured us that the youth are not alone, that he stands behind us.

He reminded me that the road will not always be easy, but nothing good comes without sacrifice. Most importantly, he urged me to remain true and honest to my people, no matter the circumstances.

This encouragement strengthens our resolve to keep pushing, keep serving, and keep believing in the power of young people to shape a better tomorrow.
