@AutisticCoach_ I was diagnosed age 10 or 11 I think (thought it was 12 but nope, I was still in primary) and I really struggled with it. Started coming to terms with it age 17 then age 19 doing more ‘work’ trying to understand and allow myself to stim etc.
I'm doing some work on #DisabilityBenefits atm and want to hear from disabled folk!
Thread of polls (stats won't be used, just to see what are most pressing issues amongst us so I'm not using only my opinion):
1. which barriers do you face the most with the benefits system?
@dumpstercryptid Yeah I completely agree 100%. My mum was like 10 is too young to be taught about this stuff. I told her I don’t agree, also don’t agree with silly nicknames for parts (especially ‘cookie’ 🙄) tame but clear nicknames are okay tho imo as long as teachers etc can pick up on it.
If someone you know is chronically ill/disabled and they don’t work—rest assured, they are not on some fun vacation that you are missing out on. Their full time job is probably taking care of themselves and they wish they could work and be productive like you.
Does anyone else have *awful* clothing sensory issues? My sensory needs are so bad I only wear specific jersey dresses and the same 2-4 hoodies I’ve had for about 3 years #ActuallyAutistic
#LongCovid one in ten infections. One in ten causes disability. We're fucked. We are utterly and truly fucked. I have 2 ivy league degrees. I was making 6 figures. Now, if I get denied disability the only thing keeping me from homelessness would be my friends. One in ten.
