UNILORIN CONTINUES SCHOOL FEES REFUND FOR FINAL-YEAR NELFUND BENEFICIARIES

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has continued the refund of school fees to eligible final-year students who are beneficiaries of the NELFUND Student Loan Scheme.

Team Honorable has confirmed that some final-year beneficiaries who earlier completed and submitted the refund form released by the university, but were yet to receive their payments, have now started receiving alerts.

However, the refund process is gradual, meaning not all eligible final-year beneficiaries will receive their payments at the same time.

Final-year beneficiaries who are yet to receive their refunds are advised to remain patient and continue monitoring their accounts as the university processes the payments.

FG Declares Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The declaration was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, according to a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

The Minister urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the virtues of compassion, humility and service, while praying for peace and national unity.

Tunji-Ojo also called on citizens to celebrate the occasion responsibly, with restraint and mutual respect. He assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace across the country.

There is a difference between disbursement and refund. A refund is your outstanding balance after using your disbursement to pay your institution’s fees. So, I guess you mean disbursement, and if so, there is a high probability that they will use the 2026/2027 disbursement to pay the 2027/2028 school fees, if your school calendar is faster.

The question of whether students whose 2025/2026 NELFUND school fees disbursement was used by their school to pay their 2026/2027 school fees will still be able to register for the 2026/2027 NELFUND loan when the portal opens needs to be addressed.

Actually, this is not the first time this has happened. Ideally, each NELFUND disbursement is meant for a particular academic session. However, this situation can occur when a school’s academic calendar is ahead of NELFUND’s calendar.

In such cases, students in schools whose academic calendar is ahead of NELFUND’s calendar will still be able to register for the current academic session on the NELFUND portal.

One of the major reasons students usually unable to register for a new NELFUND loan is having an outstanding or unprocessed previous loan, particularly when the previous loan has been verified but has not yet been moved to the “Disbursed” stage.

However, by the time NELFUND opens the portal for new applications, schools that are ahead of the NELFUND calendar, as well as most other schools, NELFUND would have processed their previous disbursement. Therefore, students in this situation should be able to register for the new loan.

So, I have clarified that issue. However, there are still important reasons why you should register for the 2026/2027 NELFUND loan once the portal opens if you wish to remain a beneficiary of NELFUND.

1. You may not be considered a beneficiary for the 2026/2027 session

If you do not register for the new loan when the portal opens and the application period eventually closes, you will not be a beneficiary of NELFUND for the 2026/2027 academic session.

For students whose schools use the previous session’s disbursement to settle their current school fees, the same situation may likely occur in 2027/2028. If you fail to register for the 2026/2027 NELFUND loan, you may be left out when the time comes to process the subsequent session’s funding.

2. You may not be able to receive upkeep allowance

Remember that NELFUND’s policy ties upkeep payments to school-fee disbursement. This means that for you to receive upkeep for a particular academic session, your school fees for that session must be disbursed.

Therefore, if you want to continue receiving upkeep payments in the next academic session, you should register for the 2026/2027 NELFUND loan once the portal opens.

FUTMINNA Reports 607 Unsuccessful NELFUND Refunds, Begins Re-processing Process

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), has announced that the refund payments of 607 students were unsuccessful and will be re-processed.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Public Relations Officer on August 18, 2026, the affected students were identified following the compilation of records of unsuccessful NELFUND refund transactions.

The SUG stated that the failed refunds were largely attributed to incorrect or mismatched bank account details, the use of FinTech accounts such as OPay, Moniepoint and PalmPay, as well as insufficient account limits that could not accommodate the refund amounts.

The union disclosed that the list of affected students, together with detailed instructions on how to request the re-processing of their refunds, will be released exclusively through the official SUG WhatsApp Channel.

Affected students have therefore been advised to join the official channel and closely monitor subsequent announcements to avoid missing important information concerning the re-processing exercise.

Students are also encouraged to ensure that their bank account details are accurate and capable of receiving the refund amount before the re-processing begins.
