Congrats to FAM!
I started with Finance of America Companies a year ago! It feels both too long and too short to capture all I've learned and done over the past year. Time has sure flown. However, it was a great move as a #womaninIT and I would not change it!

@profmissfortune I used it as a learning experience because I could make time. I think many students have never had a crappy retail or food service job. They have no idea about speaking to a supervisor. It’s so unfortunate and will hurt them on the job market.
@profmissfortune I once had students tell me they were “disappointed” I didn’t email them back at 3 am the night before a paper was due. The next day, I took their drafts (they still could revise) and asked the class how many had a job where they didn’t just do it for funsies
@profmissfortune The answers were surprising. Most had never had a job or a job that wasn’t their dad getting them a cushy internship. Thus, no one had really taught them how to send an email or message professionally. We spent that class discussing professional communication.
@drkateperry Now, I firmly believe I kept the dam plugged most days (demonstrated by what happened after I left that job), but I think many people in admin are there collecting a paycheck until they retire and getting away with doing almost nothing. Meanwhile, adjuncts can’t eat.
@drkateperry I definitely made much more in an admin capacity than I did as research faculty and much more than most of my faculty peers. I worked fewer hours (my hours were less flexible and if something intense happened, I had to come in) but I don’t think my job was nearly as stressful.
@ConsumersEnergy these lines are practically on the trail near the Nature Center (just off of the tail running next to S Westnedge) in Kalamazoo. This is super dangerous. I thought I’d let you know I saw this on my lunch ride today.
This has been going on without it being codified but I'm really curious to what IR cyber scholars like @CyberPeaceProf have to say about how this plays into IR and the ability for international authorities to do something?

Shoutout to @74gear for making my kid feel a little safer while flying on her first flight. She felt better knowing ATC was what stopped us from crashing into other planes.
@cajun_law_chick @drkateperry Because at least for me a text is a very different thing. Beyond graduate students I was supervising, I never ever gave out my number to students. That’s what she’s taking issue with. Given that I went to grad school with her, I can assure you she’s plenty accessible already
@cajun_law_chick @drkateperry Please read Dr. Perry’s response above. She already does this. A text is what she is disputing. No one is saying a reminder shouldn’t go out but maybe your mileage may very. I would never give out my number to an entire class of freshman.
@cajun_law_chick @drkateperry I don’t teach anymore but she says she configures these emails to go out. I often took 17 credit hours in college and had plenty going on in grad school. I get it. I always sent reminders. I have never not once sent a text reminder to a student nor would I.
@FelipeToZendon @drkateperry They might but they didn’t start it 12 hours before it was due and expect it to be great. Or they had unrealistic grade expectations IME.
@YstradHistory @drkateperry That’s fine. But clearly then you knew the due date right? If you knew the due date, you’re not in the group we’re talking about. We’re talking about students who haven’t started on a 5+ page paper that needs sources 12 hours before it is due.
@AZapruder @drkateperry My kid actual has “life skills” classes which teach about emotional regulation and executive function in kindergarten at our tiny little Title I and it’s great! So some districts are doing it now!
@mjames323 @drkateperry I know some students wait but I would say most everything I’ve ever started the night before was garbage and most of what I’ve received written the night before… same. Now, I should specify I’m not talking about discussion questions or a quiz. I’m talking papers or exams.
@debstanleytio @drkateperry @accdistrict@ACCMBPT That’s fab! I think especially with the need to use apps like Confluence, Jira, Trello, Asana etc at jobs and in regular life is a skill many new hires lack! It’s also just skills for life!
