Why is µTorrent so small?
There’s a reason the name µTorrent starts with the Greek letter “µ” — it stands for micro.
From the beginning, µTorrent was built around one simple idea: give users a full-featured BitTorrent client without making the software itself a burden on their computer.
When it was created by Ludvig Strigeus in 2005, many torrent clients were becoming increasingly resource-heavy. µTorrent took a different approach: keep the application tiny while still supporting the features users actually needed — magnet links, DHT, peer exchange, scheduling, encryption, RSS, remote control, and more.
That philosophy shaped almost everything under the hood.
The client was designed with a compact executable, minimal dependencies, efficient memory management, and carefully optimized disk I/O. Instead of constantly consuming system resources, µTorrent dynamically manages its cache and network activity based on what is happening in the background.
Its networking approach follows the same principle.
µTorrent’s µTP (Micro Transport Protocol) uses UDP with congestion control designed to reduce interference with latency-sensitive activities such as browsing and calls. In other words, downloading shouldn't have to mean making the rest of your internet connection unusable.
The result is a client that can continue handling multiple torrents while leaving most of your system resources available for everything else.
And that is probably the most interesting part of µTorrent’s design.
The goal was never simply to make a torrent client.
It was to make one that could almost disappear while doing its job.
Two decades later, that lightweight philosophy remains one of the defining characteristics of µTorrent — and a big part of why it became one of the most recognizable names in BitTorrent.

AMD just delivered the kind of earnings report that looks excellent on paper, yet the stock still got hit.
Q2 revenue reached a record $11.5B, up 50% YoY, while GAAP net income jumped to $2.3B, roughly 163% higher than a year earlier.
And yet, AMD shares dropped around 7% after hours.
That’s the interesting part about earnings season.
The market doesn’t only ask, “How good was the quarter?”
It asks, “Was it good enough for what was already priced in?”
AMD’s data center revenue more than doubled to $6.72B, while management also guided for roughly $13B in Q3 revenue.
So why the negative reaction?
Expectations around AI are extremely high. Investors appear to be looking beyond strong headline growth and demanding clearer evidence that AMD can keep accelerating its AI business and turn that growth into even bigger future returns.
That’s a useful reminder for anyone trading earnings:
Great numbers don’t automatically mean a higher stock price.
Sometimes the real trade is in the gap between expectations and reality.
