Susa wasn't one of the first places in Persia to strike Greek coins. What makes it remarkable is why it minted at all: this was the Persian Empire's own treasury city, where Alexander seized an enormous hoard of captured silver. That very silver is likely what became this coin

This is a tetradrachm of Philip III Arrhidaeus, struck at Susa between 320 BC and 316 BC. (Picture 1 and 2)

My coin is a little underweight. It weighs 16.14 grams. Just over a gram short of the ~17.2g standard.

This small silver drachm was struck in the name of Alexander the Great, after he was already dead. Herakles wears the lion skin on the front. Zeus sits enthroned on the back with his eagle and sceptre.

I think it is completely normal for a coin this old. There's a dark toning visible on the surface too, likely old oxidation.

Usually tetradrachms are equivelant of 4 silver drachm coins and so is this coin. So 4 day salary for a person, over 2300 years ago.

This coin is one piece of a larger project. I built a full ounce of gold by collecting 25 different coins, each 1/25 oz, buying whenever I found one near spot rate rather than paying full retail premium. Together, they form a complete ounce.

🪙 150 rupees: Gharial crocodile, 35g, .925 silver, 42mm

Both obverses carry the Minar-e-Pakistan of Lahore, beneath a crescent and star, dated 1976.
