Best game I ever went to

I love to go back and watch old random NFL games.

Right now I’m watching Week 1 in 1994. Patriots at Dolphins. This is Dan Marino’s 1st game back after tearing his Achilles in Oct of 1993. He’s going against Bill Parcells and Drew Bledsoe.

It’s funny now watching these teams run the ball “to keep the defenses honest.” Their running games were not good and they just wasted downs (for 1 great QB in Bledsoe and 1 of the single greatest passers in Dan Marino).

I just saw Bledsoe throw a perfect seam pass to give Pats a 21-10 lead. Tom Brady made people forget that Drew was a really good player.

Meanwhile, the passes Marino is making on one leg after this injury are wild. His mobility is minimal at best. While also being able to wiggle/move around in the pocket to buy time for his ridiculous arm. He’s making passes at arm angles I didn’t see again until Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

I just saw Marino trailing 21-10 on 3rd & 15 from the Pats 26 yard line throw a freakin strike in the end zone for a TD to his TE Keith Jackson. It happened to be his 300th career TD.

TD pass 301 was even better. It’s 3rd & 15 again w/ 3:09 in the 3rd Q. Marino is in the shotgun, pressure coming up the middle. He side steps the pass rush by backpedaling to his left. Then he throws off balance, fading to his left, a 54 yard strike for a TD to Irving Fryer.

Again, I’ve only seen 2 other guys make throws like that - Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes

4th Q: Marino just threw another 50 yard TD to Irving Fryer. A flee-flicker to a wide open Fryer. Dolphins take their first lead of this game and the stadium is going nuts. His 4th TD of this game.

What this dude was doing in his 1st game off a torn Achilles is simply an out of body experience to watch.

This doesn’t even account for the way the Dolphins ended up winning this game. Trailing 35-32 w/ 7 min to go in the 4th. The Dolphins threw on a 4th & 5 - A 35 yard pass for a TD from Marino to Irving Fryer. In 1994 99% of teams kick a FG to tie there. But b/c they had Marino, Shula rolled the dice there and it paid off.

Honestly, of all the QB’s from that era, I’d love to see Marino, Elway & Warren Moon play in 2023.

There were a ton of great QB’s from that era. But those 3 had arms that were unparalleled.

Side note: I was at this game I’m watching as a 17 year old kid sitting in the 400 level.
