There are three primary #areas of your business that drive #value. In large businesses, there could be a dozen or more departments. But, when you get down to brass tacks, there are only three essential areas no matter your size...

I’ve had some success helping owners who wanted to stay out of #court over business valuation #disputes. There are #tradeoffs, however. New blog post in the comments. Thanks.
If someone isn't accountable for #collections, money tends to not get collected. If this was #obvious to everyone, I shouldn't see it so often in the businesses I value. #AccountsReceivable
If you #bonus so much owner compensation out to avoid income taxes that you have to hit your line of credit to make payroll, you likely overshot. #WorkingCapital needs are different for every business. There are worse things than #IncomeTaxes. Running out of cash is one of them.
It's also important to understand the total cost structure because sometimes the pieces are allocated differently than the industry. Some businesses are well-automated. Some are not.
Don't lose the #forest looking at one tree.
It doesn't make sense to look at #OwnerCompensation in isolation in business valuation. In some businesses, owners do a lot and in some they do little. It's useful to look at the overall salaries required to run the #operation at arm's length.
It never ceases to amaze me how much #GrossProfit has an outsized impact on construction and #TradeContractors. It's not unusual to have the highest sales year have lower profit than a year with better project cost management. Doing #boring things well is highly underrated.
For #presentations, I've found 2 minutes per slide is a reasonable estimate to keep you on schedule. If you have an hour for 40 slides, you will likely run out of time. Better to k*ll your darlings, get it to 30 slides, learn to #improvise, and aim for #impact instead of volume.
