The #HTrap ball heats up in the sun and the female #horsefly mistakes this as a horse (or you). When it lands on the ball but fails to find a blood meal it takes off but is funnelled up into the catch chamber. Once trapped #horseflies die by dehydration. Simple and effective.
Well it’s warmed up for mid summer and the horseflies have appeared as if by magic. Time to check those traps are in working order if not already up and catching.
We are the exclusive suppliers of the H-Trap Horsefly System for the UK. Other companies (below) bring them in from Europe, are more expensive and have poor stock. Next day delivery included as standard (Mainland UK but Highlands/Islands a bit longer). https://t.co/ppRvtdPPdx
Notch-horned clef fly, Haematopota pluvialis. I was able to photograph this horsefly on a sheet of printer paper in the middle of the forest. Occasionally I have a white sheet with me to play with the light and its reflections.

Incredibly lucky coincidence when one of your best clients is the main UK distributor of horse fly traps. The flies are attracted to the hot rubber ball.Thank you @horseflytrap
It's peak horsefly time. Our green catch chamber is designed to be UV resistant. Should you need to replace yours we have them in our spare parts section https://t.co/teUtCQtdTB
If you have not erected your H-Trap yet this year, be aware that the recent rains, if followed by warmer temperatures (and we can but hope) then the clegs will not be that far behind. Now is a time to order spares (https://t.co/Kfz9atOKcl) or even a new trap.
We receive many enquiries and are happy to send #horseflytraps to clients in France and Italy. #Horseflies are very active there from May to September. Some species peak in the spring, some in the autumn. Many are present and actively biting all summer long.
@theJeremyVine@bbcradio2 Horseflies are a nuisance during the summer months especially on hot days after a few showers. Traps exist to help horse owners.
It's horsefly season: the following BBC video doesn't really tell you how to avoid being bitten (our #HTrap will help) but has some great insights into this great but annoying group of insects. https://t.co/uBeVyttTAj
It’s that time of year again..to drag out your #Horsefly Trap, discover bits missing and think...oh, let’s not bother, until that is you get bitten. We hold a wide range of spares. Only some are listed on https://t.co/teUtCQtdTB so feel free to contact us if you need something.
