Hari ini pake seragam polo shirt baru dari sekolah.
Salah satu murid gue (kelas 12) nyeletuk “Haha… Miss seragamnya kayak seragam cleaner kita.”
I stopped at my track. Eyebrows raised.
I let silence speaks.
Itu salah satu cara gue untuk koreksi sikap. Tanpa kata-kata, membiarkan keheningan mengajar.
Murid2 gue langsung tau udah ngomong salah.
“Sorry, Miss”
Let’s evaluate first. What’s potentially wrong with your previous sentence?
“I said u looked like the cleaner”
Oh but why? Pak X (the name of the cleaner) works HARD and thorough every single day. He clocks in at 6.30, clocks out at 4.30 without failing. The floor is shining. The desk is shimmering. The job is paying his bills, providing food for his family too, decent, halal, and amazing. What’s wrong with looking like Pak X?
“Yes, Miss. Sorry”
What are u sorry for this time? He’s a hard worker and I aspire to be just that.
“Yes, Miss, okay.”
What potentially be wrong is the unspoken behind your words, nak. I dunno ur intention but it sounded like u looked down at his profession… which is wrong. I don’t feel humiliated bcz nothing is wrong with “keliatan kayak cleaner”, it is the possible tone and the intention that potentially makes it mean… and wrong. You are a kind person, I know u, and you never want to be mean… intentionally ofc.
“Ya Miss, sorry.”
Please be kind. Dismissed.
