I used to hold a similar view, but am increasingly coming around to it. In a world of increasing polarisation, I will give it credit in the sense that it can be a unifying force or an area where people from completely different sides of the political spectrum or religious beliefs have a shared love in something common and can for a brief moment actually be joyous in each others company.

I used to think my university degree was a waste of tine, didnt really learn much. But I will admit it did provide me an opportunity to hone my critical reading skills and also inteoduced me to a number of topics I otherqise wouldnt have known existed. So although my university didnt teach me any of these topics in depth, i at least knew they existed and was able to go deep on the ones that resonated in my own time.

An almost forgotten form of charity and one i have been thibking about a lot. Using your resources to either create beautiful public spaces, places for gathering and preservation of heritage in your locsl community. Here in Australua we leave this task to local councils and goverment, and to be frank, they do a very mediocre job of it.

I most certainly do, and this is why the book is almost always better than the movie! You're own psychological biases help create that visualisation in your head, whereas in a movie you are seeing someone elses psychological biases.

In the same way that traffic laws bring order to the streets, moral restrictuons bring order to society. If as a collective we are given too much freedom, unrestricted choice and optionality, chaos and disorder take hold.

Balance is neccesary in all things. A harmonius equilibrium is the ideal that should be pursued in all things.

A healthy society requires balance between freedom and order. Between an individuals rights and responsibilities. Focus too much on freedom and rights, chaos ensues. Too much on order and responsibility, authoritarianism takes hold.

@Architectolder There is no dpubt in my mind that living somewhere like this promotes aspiration, motivation and a sense of pride. Environment plays a big role in peoples mentality.
