Throughout history, good leaders have inspired others and honored the lives and service of the people around them by giving of themselves what they asked others to give. They rode into battle with their troops, as George Washington did; they remained with their people even as the world around them was being leveled by bombs, as Winston Churchill did.

Trump isn’t a good leader; in fact, Trump isn’t a leader at all. Trump is the pathetic coward who used his father’s wealth to dodge serving during the Vietnam War, and he remains the same pathetic coward now, abusing the power of our military and of the executive branch of our government to build a protective, hermetic and fortified bubble around himself, because Trump doesn’t care and hasn’t ever cared about anyone else.

Yes, Trump was perfectly willing to let White House staff, the Air Force One crew, and journalists die in his place while he hid elsewhere. Everyone needs to understand that Trump will happily push anyone and anything down, destroy and corrupt and harm whatever he must, if it means saving himself.

A truly WILD story. This appears to be the order of operations:

1. Trump flies to Turkey on the new Qatari-gifted Air Force One for the NATO summit.

2. An Iranian assassination threat triggers a secret “deception operation.” Security officials devise a plan to conceal which aircraft Trump is actually traveling on.

3. The Qatari-gifted Air Force One leaves Turkey first, without Trump.

4. Trump publicly boards the legacy Air Force One in Ankara, walking up the stairs and waving for cameras, creating the appearance that this is his plane home.

5. Trump secretly exits Air Force One through the other side of the aircraft and gets into an airport catering truck raised to the plane’s door.

6. The catering truck drives Trump to a smaller Air Force C-32A, a modified Boeing 757 parked nearby.

7.. Trump secretly boards the C-32A. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also boards separately.

8. Reporters and some White House staff board the legacy Air Force One, apparently unaware Trump is no longer aboard. They are instructed to close their window shades. (Remember all that reporting from the time?)

9. The legacy Air Force One takes off as a decoy and eventually uses the “AF1” call sign despite Trump not being aboard.

10. Trump’s actual C-32A flies secretly to Britain under the nondescript call sign “Reach 18,” with its normal flight-tracking systems reportedly switched off.

11. Trump arrives at RAF Mildenhall in Britain on the C-32A, shortly before the decoy Air Force One arrives.

12. Trump somehow transfers back onto the legacy Air Force One after landing. The Post says exactly how this transfer occurred remains unclear.

13. Trump then emerges from the legacy Air Force One in front of cameras, making it appear as though that was the aircraft he had flown from Turkey.

14. Trump boards the Qatari-gifted Air Force One in Britain and finally flies back to Washington with the press and staff.

P.S. Remember when Trump told the reporters on the plane, "I go, you go," in regard to the plane being targeted? It actually seems Trump left and endangered the lives of everyone on board.

One of the most interesting parts to this story is that Ogles, one of Trump’s most fervent and racist sycophants, had Trump’s public endorsement in this primary, in one of the newly-redrawn districts Tennessee Republicans carved to comply with Trump’s orders to red states to gerrymander their state electoral maps to favor Republicans. Ogles still lost, and Trump lost a reliably-loyal congressional ally.

Good riddance, and may Trump and Republican efforts to manipulate the midterm election in their favor continue to have exactly the opposite effects to the ones they wanted.

This is demonstrably false, and shows us one of the biggest problems with Republicans and why they must be voted-out in the upcoming midterms.

Concerned with the excesses of the authoritarian they were standing-up to, the founders wrote the Constitution to establish three co-equal branches of government, so that not one branch held more power than the others: the executive, aka POTUS, which Trump and Republicans occupy; the legislative, aka Congress, where John Cornyn serves and which Republicans currently control; and the judiciary, aka the courts, some of which are also presently under Republican control, like SCOTUS.

Republicans in the legislative branch, like Cornyn, have equal power to Trump, and yet have repeatedly refused to use their power to stop Trump’s abuses. Every time they go along with Trump, vote for his candidates, sign-off on his policies, excuse and/or ignore his trespasses, and indulge his every whim, regardless of how corrupt or illegal it is, Republicans are choosing to relinquish their agency in deference to Trump, and they’re not doing this naïvely. Republicans in Congress have knowingly and repeatedly used their agency before to obstruct Democratic presidents and legislators at every turn, even when their actions were within the scope of their positions and lawful, showing us they understand perfectly well how to “rein in” officials they oppose, disproving Cornyn’s lie in this video.

So why won’t Republicans “rein in” Trump? Many theories can and should be discussed (though not here, because this post is already long), and yet the bottom line remains that Republicans’ refusal to counter Trump when needed has hobbled our country, rendering us compromised, unsafe, and unstable. Every tragic thing that has happened since Trump retook office has happened because Republicans have allowed them to happen, not despite them. Their refusal to use their agency, thereby helping to create and enable a disproportionally-powerful, authoritarian executive who abuses his power and by extension the country, against the Constitution, is why Republicans cannot remain in elected office.

Cornyn is already on his way out, hard-shoved in that direction by the same man Cornyn refuses to stand-up to. A person who cannot stand-up even for himself cannot stand-up for others, never mind for principles, so I’m happy he’s leaving. We must vote in November to ensure other Republicans follow him out.

One thing we can reliably count on with Republicans is that they will consistently do the wrong thing, like John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, who with their votes today to advance Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche out of committee continue being the servile sycophant waterboys authoritarians like Trump rely on to get by —even after Trump cost them both their jobs.

As I’ve said previously, even if Blanche makes it out of committee, which he now has, we must fight to oppose his confirmation by the full Senate, @SenateDems. Todd Blanche is the worst nominee for U.S. Attorney General in our history, and he must be stopped.

Further, let this also be a reminder to us all that the only safe way to end the appointment of grotesquely unqualified and shamelessly corrupt candidates to important positions in our government that affect all of us, and to demand tangible accountability, is to vote for Democrats this November.

Republicans have repeatedly shown us they will consistently betray our country. We must stop them before they’ve left us without much country for them to continue to betray.
