(2/2) Mark Howe fondly remembers his childhood days spent in the Red Wings locker room, where Alex’s stall sat beside Gordie’s. He was always warm and welcoming, leaving a lasting impression with his kindness. His legacy, both on and off the ice, will never be forgotten.
The hockey world mourns the loss of Alex Delvecchio, a true gentleman of the game. A longtime teammate and close friend of Gordie, Colleen, and the entire Howe family, Alex will be deeply missed. (1/2)
The NHL Alumni Association is deeply saddened to learn that Alex Delvecchio has passed away at the age of 93.
Making his NHL debut on March 25, 1951, Alex played every one of his 1,550 NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, registering 1,281 points and winning three Stanley Cups (1952, 54-55). He only missed 43 games throughout his career and was well-known for his gentlemanly style of play, winning the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy on three occasions.
After centreman Sid Abel was moved to the Blackhawks ahead of the 1951-52 season, Alex found himself between Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay, thus forming the second iteration of the famous Production Line.
Alex served as team captain from 1962 to 1973, and upon his retirement in 1974, served as head coach from 1973 to 1976. A prominent member of the Red Wings Alumni, Alex was often seen attending various community events and supporting charitable causes.
We send our heartfelt condolences to Alex’s family, friends, and former teammates during this incredibly difficult time.
This is a proud, personal moment for your family, and it means so much to us to see the Ovechkin legacy, the game we cherish, the Capitals, and the entire NHL celebrate this triumph together.
On behalf of the Howe family, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ovi and his family for this incredible milestone. Watching you break a record we once thought would stand forever is truly impressive. (cont.)
Back in 1963, Gordie surpassed Richard’s mark, and then 31 years later in 1994, his dear friend Wayne—a great friend of our family—took it further. Now, 31 years on again, you’ve gone beyond Wayne and we couldn’t be more thrilled for you. (cont.)
Very honored that Colleen will be inducted into the Michigan Sports HOF. The Howe family is elated to attend this event and celebrate Mrs Hockey's legacy alongside so many other wonderful and extraordinary nominees!

@Dave_Stubbs My condolences go out to the extended Lafleur family. The hockey world lost one of the greatest of all time and we all lost a humble and incredibly kind person
- Mark Howe
@Dave_Stubbs I had never met him before and held him in such high regard as an all time great player that I was compelled to spend time with him. What a wonderful and classy individual. It was truly an honor just to spend a couple of hours in his company.
Most of you chose correctly! As Gordie grew up during the Great Depression on a farm with no running water, he and others had to make do with what they had access to. Pucks would be shaped from manure and then frozen for use.
To all of the Howe Foundation supporters, we thank you so much for all the love shown over the past few days. To learn more about our history/family, we want to start off the new week with a few fun trivia questions!
"I was truly blessed to have you as a father and role model. You always accepted people for who they are and you make me want to be a better person each and every day for the rest of my life. Miss you dearly"
Love, Mark
Happy Birthday Dad, Love Mark
"Not a day goes by that you aren't in my thoughts, especially today on your birthday. All the incredible memories we shared together as father and son. Golfing, fishing, playing hockey, doing crossword puzzles, etc.

1964. A year later, Gordie, again all class, sharing a drink as a runner-up with Stanley Cup Champion and great friend Johnny Bower in the #Leafs dressing room. #LeafsForever#RedWings#LGRW
Welcome to the Gordie Howe Museum!
Many years ago, my grandmother had a dream to build a Howe Museum to further the @Howe_Foundation’s cause in their pursuit of helping others.
