Four main drivers of parental complaints in my opinion:
1. Covid, and the breakdown of public trust in national infrastructure and institutions.
2. The rise of ChatGPT and the resulting ease of sending substantial technical correspondence.
3. Explosion in demand for increased SEND support (and social and mental health support too, but a bit smaller). Schools simply can't manage this demand, leading to conflict and complaints.
4. The drastic increase in baseline educational levels of parents, and the resultant increased expectations around school professionalism and service.

This is readily apparent to anyone who teaches college students.
I asked students to work a very simple intro problem that I've used for 10 years. For the first time, some students had problems with basic reading comprehension.
