“Besides his outstanding contributions to particle physics, Peter was a very special person, an immensely inspiring figure for physicists across the world, a man of rare modesty, a great teacher and someone who explained physics in a very simple and yet profound way. (1/2)
@suter_gabriela@cwasi Wer mit Wind und Sonne Energie erzeugen will, sollte sich auch um die Energiebilanz der jeweiligen Technologien kümmern. EROI steht für "Energy Return of Invested (Energy)". Einzig Wasserkraft und Kernenergie kommen als fossilfreie Technologien in Frage. https://t.co/1lnAlk9PCq

@CHIPP_news@unibern@Michele30673179 International masterclass in particle physics. 40 young high-school students today in Bern. You can see me entertaining them about CERN and the structure of matter and the Universe.
Neutrino oscillations show that lepton flavour violation exists.
Searching for such potential beyond-the-Standard Model behaviour in Higgs-boson decays, the @ATLASexperiment has set new upper limits on the branching fractions of H → eτ and H → μτ

@AndreasCrivell1 I just discussed exactly this topic in my introductory lecture on particles and nuclei few days ago. Always fascinating to see how young students get flabbergasted, when they hear such things for the first time.
A book that only few have read in detail, but still, it changed the world. A truly groundbreaking achievement.
Some of the easier stuff is being tought in all grammar schools. It's a marvel and its value cannot be underestimated.
Congratulations to IPPOG Masterclass Coordinators, Uta Bilow and Kenneth Cecire, and IPPOG ATLAS Representative, Sascha Mehlhase, recipients of the @EuroPhysSoc HEPP Outreach Prize for 2021!
