Let me give point wise rebuttal to @himantabiswa .

1. “ @RahulGandhi is no champion of women’s rights , just a Hindu-baiter".

It is selective memory. When Congress governments passed the Hindu Code Bills that gave Hindu women equal inheritance, divorce and property rights, the same forces that today lecture on “Hindu reform” opposed them tooth and nail. Attacking Manusmriti is not Hindu-baiting ,it is continuing the reform tradition that ended sati, child marriage and untouchability. Silence on your own history of resistance to those reforms is convenient.

2. “He never speaks against Sharia / patriarchal practices under Islamic law”
This is completely false. The main opposition party (including Rahul) welcomed the Supreme Court striking down instant triple talaq. The party’s objection was to the criminalisation clause that risked jailing the only earning member of a poor family , not to the ban itself. Meanwhile, where is the equal outrage from the ruling party side against the continued legal validity of polygamy, nikah halala and unequal inheritance under Muslim personal law? Selective silence cuts both ways.

*3. “Manusmriti has no scriptural authority like Sharia”
Correct and that is exactly why criticising it is legitimate reform talk, not an attack on Hinduism. Hindu society has repeatedly discarded outdated texts. Treating every critique of Manusmriti as an assault on “Hindu Dharma” is the real attempt to freeze Hinduism in the past.

4. “Congress reversed Shah Bano and opposed Triple Talaq”
Shah Bano was a political blunder by Rajiv Gandhi’s government , no denial. But the same Congress later supported the Supreme Court’s triple talaq verdict. Contrast this with the fact that a Uniform Civil Code remains unimplemented after years of ruling party rule at the Centre. If women’s equality is the real priority, why is UCC still a slogan rather than a law?

5. “No woman in the Karnataka Cabinet”
Karnataka’s 2023 Congress cabinet had one woman minister (Lakshmi Hebbalkar). Recent expansions/reshuffles have been criticised for low representation fair point. Now turn the mirror: How many women ministers does Assam have under you? Token inclusion does not erase the larger pattern of under-representation across parties. Practice before preach applies to every side.

6. “Support Uniform Civil Code or admit it’s only about attacking Hinduism”
UCC is a constitutional goal. If the challenge is serious, introduce a draft that applies equal rights across communities without majoritarian cherry-picking. Until then, accusing others of using women’s rights as a “smokescreen” while using the same issue for polarisation looks like projection.

Women’s rights are not a Hindu-vs-Muslim contest. They are a question of equal citizenship. Reducing every demand for reform inside Hindu society to “Hindu-baiting” while soft-pedalling reform elsewhere is the real smokescreen.

Young India loves @RahulGandhi because, when his party was in power, he fought against his own government to bring in the Land Acquisition Act. He paid a heavy price for it: twelve years of propaganda financed by cronies, followed by the loss of political power. Yet, even today, he remains firmly committed to his ideology of decentralising power.

Most other opposition leaders do not love democracy as deeply. While they see replacing Modi’s rule with their own, equally centralised rule as “change,” Rahul Gandhi seeks to replace the Modi regime with decentralised power and the restoration of democracy.
