@sapphiceya@naranciagaming 1. The lack of a true single playthrough is what makes them better as a fan - they each have different takes that I'd think of as valid.
2. Yeah I'd probably consider them equally as bad. You can't just excise core parts of the experience.
@sapphiceya@naranciagaming What's the limit you draw? If someone reads fanfiction & the wiki for a story but has never read it, even written fanfic, can they call themselves a fan? If they can answer all the trivia questions & are very passionate but never experienced it?
@sapphiceya@naranciagaming Part of what makes games so interesting is that something about the player being given the controller, pressing the buttons, etc. seems to ramp up immersiveness tenfold. If you are not pressing the buttons, not experiencing that difference, you have not played the game
@sapphiceya@naranciagaming I don't think the difference between listening & reading is quite large enough for me to say that, & I'd say the same about e-book vs physical
By watching a game, you are robbing it of the core feature that makes the medium different & interesting artistically - interactivity.
@sapphiceya@naranciagaming There's a lot to be said here about how the wikification/lore-ification of fandom, or how people want more to be a part of a fandom as a social group than be a fan of the work itself (you don't see these issues with anything that doesn't really have a fandom per se)
@sapphiceya@naranciagaming I would say the same about someone who lacked access to a book, like because it was not translated into their language.
That's OK, they don't have access. It sucks, but if they don't have the means to read/watch the thing, they can't be a fan.
Deaaron fox with one of the most damaging halves of basketball I’ve ever seen. Backbreaking mistake after backbreaking mistake from the guy who is supposed to be the floor manager even if he’s not scoring well
@CFRcesar@PROMAKOS_ While it itself is fake, at the very least its use in stories has a very long history, given that it's one of the ways Gilgamesh is said to be a tyrant in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
@quattro2240@hellspatisserie Worm fanbase has kinda grown past that. Early on yeah, but Worm very much has its own fandom.
Also depends heavily on the website. Spacebattles vs Reddit vs Tumblr vs Discord, etc.
Bill Simmons has cooked my brain because I’m sitting here at half thinking like “well if you’re the spurs you can’t lose the champagnie game, but also if you’re the Knicks you can’t lose the Alvarado game”
