"This is essentially what the Honourable Prime Minister means by 'vikas bhi, virasat bhi'. When we talk about development, we should also remember our heritage — virasat. This effort aims to explore the current state of bell metal as a craft form in Odisha. Rather than focusing solely on its origins, the romanticism around it, or how beautiful it was in the past, we have tried to connect it to the present and the future. How many artists are practising today? Where are they located in Odisha? What is happening to their livelihoods? What about the next generation of artisans? The entire gamut of this traditional craft — bell metal, or kansar — has been studied and researched in this document."
