Empathy describes our ability to connect emotionally with the suffering of others, as Christ connected emotionally with our suffering in original sin. This virtue flows directly from the virtue of charity, and growth in charity will enable growth in empathy.

Whoever receives the one sent in Christ’s name receives Christ. Whoever loves the Word of God loves God Himself. Who is Christ sending to you in his is name this week? What Word do they speak into the stillness of your soul? Receive them. Receive him.

When a person hears a “call,” he cannot simply go — he must first figure out where the call is coming from. It’s not enough to simply have an idea; the idea needs a good, thorough background check. This is discernment.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Sts Peter and Paul, honoring their martyrdom in Rome and their witness to the early Church. Though very different in character, their friendship & shared mission helped strengthen God's people & shape the Church.

Today is the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. Did you know that his birthday is one of only three celebrated by the Church? The others are Jesus Christ and Mary.

“What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light.” We all hear God’s voice whispering in our hearts. Discipleship means speaking those words out loud. We all feel the Spirit sing into our souls. Discipleship means that we dance to the tune.
Today is Juneteenth! In the United States, this holiday is an important reason to celebrate, as it marks the true end of slavery. It commemorates when federal troops enforced emancipation in Texas, making it a kind of “second Independence Day” for many. Thank God for freedom!
