Yesterday, some of our band students traveled to Austin for a day of food, fun, and music! We had lunch at the famous Salt Lick BBQ and then went to UT Austin for some bowling. The day ended at the UT Butler School of Music, where we enjoyed a performance by the UT Wind Ensemble.
The Great Lakes Naval Fleet Band brass quintet, "The Brass Ambassadors," visited us today. They did a masterful job presenting a fun and diverse program of music. We also appreciated their insight into careers in music and the life of military musicians. Thank you!
Thanks to the Houston Symphony for inviting our HSPVA band, orchestra, and piano students to Jones Hall today for an open rehearsal. We enjoyed the artistry on stage, and appreciated the opportunity to speak with new music director Juraj Valčuha during the break.
Spotted at Houston Youth Symphony rehearsal today: most of the nine HSPVA band students who hold positions in HYS ensembles, plus Mr. Fetting, who was there to lead sectionals. We are very proud of our students who play in these amazing groups!
It was an exciting day yesterday for some of our band students! They had the opportunity to play for the unveiling of a fountain on the Houston Sports Walk of Fame. Mayor Sylvester Turner was in attendance, along with several Houston sports legends!
We are having our first Chamber Concert of the year! Please come out and support our students October 3rd @6:30 pm. You can purchase tickets by going to this link https://t.co/LJ3Nkz3EZd or before the concert. There is an Astros game @ 8:10 pm so there probably will be traffic.
Going downtown to protest the NRA & GOP in #Houston tomorrow? Please be prepared and take care of yourself. Allow me to offer tips based on my decades of experience as a lawyer (tho this is NOT legal advice), activist, and person who hates hot weather. A thread:
The Symphonic Band's final concert of the year is tonight at 7:00 pm. There's also an Astros home game, so leave extra time to find parking. Don't miss this beautiful performance with our guest performers @Windsync https://t.co/L0UVSFrwKF
