President Ismail Omar Guelleh has opened Djibouti's First National Forum on Artificial Intelligence, a two day meeting at the Palais du Peuple that began on Wednesday and brought together academics, technology specialists, business figures, developers, young people and women.

He said that within ten years there will be no country that does not use artificial intelligence, and that Djibouti's position on the world's shipping routes means it can take part in that development despite its size. The aim, he said, is not to import artificial intelligence developed elsewhere but to create Djibouti's own and sell the technology it builds to others. The forum was organised by the Ministry Delegate for the Digital Economy and Innovation.

⚡️UPDATE: Following two months of intensive mediation led by Western diplomats, spearheaded by the @US2SOMALIA, Outgoing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration and opposition leaders (including Puntland & Jubbaland) have reached a consensus.

The agreed framework rules out unilateral term extension disputes and establishes a structured 7-month transition toward transparent national elections.

Under the agreement, direct management of the electoral process shifts from the Office of the Prime Minister to an independent, multi-party Electoral Task Force representing federal, FMS, and opposition stakeholders.

State elections in Galmudug and Hirshabelle are slated for completion this September. Once regional polls wrap up, the Task Force will immediately kick off the federal election process.

The Task Force will oversee schedule drafting, technical operations, and inter-party coordination to ensure a neutral, transparent, and credible voting outcome. #Somalia
