Recruitment: Victims are frequently recruited by other victims. Female friends will befriend a victim and then introduce them to the “party scene.” Youth who struggle with low self-esteem, bullying, discrimination, poverty, abuse, isolation and social/family issues are targeted.
83% of 2020 #SexTrafficking cases involved online solicitation, the most common tactic used to solicit sex buyers. 65% of underage victims recruited online in 2020 sex trafficking cases were through Facebook, 14% were through Instagram, and 8% were through Snapchat. #HTinWC

This trafficker employed the “boyfriending” technique. The trafficker at the beginning may give the victim love and affection, gifts, and promise of marriage and a future together. Then quickly pulls away and starts giving mixed messages. #KnowTheSigns

When a trafficker finds a vulnerable teenager, they groom them for sexual exploitation by offering them something they want or need: love, shelter, friendship, protection, drugs, alcohol, money, jewellery, and a glamorous life. #HTinWC#KnowHumanTrafficking
