This is what happens when 2 of the best puzzle games on iOS and #MetaQuest have a baby 😅
I am talking about #MonumentValley and @CubismVR .
This is Runaria, one of the submissions to the Meta Horizon Start Competition.
The gameplay is elegant and doesn't need any explanation (a HUGE plus for me), and is wrapped up in a minimalistic package with polished interactions.
When looking deeper, 3 things convinced me about its potential:
- It could scale easily into a fully fledged experience with more complex levels and "modifiers"
- With some tweaks, I could see this running easily on #augmentedreality glasses: 3D adds value to the experience, interactions are simple and it looks super light to run on a mobile device.
- The "thumb swipe" is such a powerful interaction and I wonder how else it could be used.
The level of the projects in this competition is super high. It is going to be tough to pick the winners.
Have you also submitted? Drop the devpost link in the comments I would love to check it out.

🚀 Tackling new #design challenges with the Apple Vision Pro meant overcoming slow iteration processes. @htorrendell and his team streamlined their workflow from #Figma through #Unity and XCode to the #VisionPro, thanks to ShapesXR. They were able to rapidly prototype and refine spatial designs, making them the foundation for precise front-end development.

Checkout how @GabRoXR uses @ShapesXR to re-design our design of Newton's Room user interface super fast.
ShapesXR is a great tool for designing spatial user interfaces directly in a spatial environment. If you're a designer in the AR/VR industry, you should definitely try out ShapesXR.
Also, follow @TreeviewStudio for the upcoming launch of Newton's Room at the end of April!
You can learn spatial #design in 3 steps:
1. Look for interesting apps on your favorite platform #Quest or #VisionPro
2. Pick a specific #UI or interaction that you find interesting or aligns with your design challenge
3. Get @ShapesXR and rebuild it in #3D
This is very effective because it forces you to focus on a specific problem instead of the entire UI, complex interactions or user flows. After the initial analysis and understanding you step IN your design, experience the implications of the choices others have made, and learn A LOT from them.
In this video, I take inspiration from the upcoming #education app by the team at @TreeviewStudio.
I liked the idea of switching between different #mixedreality effects based on the "toggled environment modifier" that affects how fast objects move in space. I think the prototype turned up quite well....
...What do you think @htorrendell ?
We believe SceneScript represents a significant milestone on the path to true AR glasses that will bridge the physical and digital worlds. As we dive deeper into this potential at Reality Labs Research, we’re thrilled at the prospect of how this pioneering approach will help shape the future of AI and ML research. https://t.co/vsaiArfFth
