University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson on Jamal Shead signing a new three-year $24 million extension with the Toronto Raptors a year early, just two seasons into his NBA career: "I told Toronto before the draft, I told all those guys, 'Look you can sit there and figure out what's wrong with every player.' That's what most cynical people do. Always figure out what's wrong, that's how they see things.
"But if you want to win and have a player that's dependable you can count on. . . Sometimes a player's greatest strength can be dependability. And that's what Jamal is. His attributes talent wise is No. 1 his strength. I mean, he is strong. His thighs and his butt. That's a powerful little dude. But his leadership, his basketball IQ, his fearlessness, his competitiveness. I hear a lot of people say he's not quite big enough.
"My response is always the same. You're always big enough if you're good enough. And Jamal is."
Willie Fritz's University of Houston team drops out of the Coaches Poll after its 2-point loss at Texas Tech and is not ranked in that Top 25. While Texas Tech moves up two spots to No. 10 after escaping with a win over the Cougars at home.
This shows how poll logic seldom makes any sense and that UH's loss has some real perception consequences.
How is this not pass interference on Texas Tech, you can’t miss this call. Then Houston gets called for Pass Interference on the next drive. Gotta call the game both ways
Big 10 Office on Monday: “After reviewing the video, it is clear that the game clock should’ve gone to 0:00. We want to apologize to Western Michigan for our mistake.”
They need to investiage everyone involved with the michigan / western michigan game because from the punt to the third iteration of the final snap that's just all smelly.
Doug Eddings got into with the Cardinals manager earlier in the game, so he called the runner safe here out of spite even after review. He absolutely must be fired. There’s no way an umpire can be doing this in an MLB game
Umpire Doug Eddings went on a power trip during the bottom of the 6th in the Cardinals Rockies game.
First, he demanded that pitcher Hancel Rincon (in his MLB debut) straighten his hat since no one will wear a hat like that on "his field".
When manager Oli Marmol went to talk to Eddings about the hat incident during a pitching change, Eddings gave the Cardinals a pitch clock violation and ejected Marmol.
A couple batters later, with the Cardinals out of challenges, Eddings made a terrible call on a play at the plate to gift the Rockies the lead.
O.J. Brigance, a former Willowridge High School and Rice standout who later carved out an unlikely seven-season NFL career, died Monday after a 19-year battle with ALS. He was 56.
