RNC DAY 1
@HeimschMaddie, @hubmer2 and I are on the way to Republican National Convention! Stay tuned today as we walk you through what to expect. @WISCTV_News3
#UWJ201 #311 Professor McLeod talked about how strategic communications has become more complex, spiking an increase in job opportunities. What would be your ideal occupation working in communications?
@jrodrosey1313#UWJ201 #311 I like this question a lot. It definitely matters. When applying for a job, school, or any organization your social media is evaluated. I think it is smart to present yourself well in order to avoid missing an opportunity based on a photo or tweet.
@Jakz2402#UWJ201 #311 I think advertisements, in particular, will become more specific towards the intended audience. The Secret deodorant brand is an example of how their feminist message became more specified over time.
#UWJ201 #311 Prof. Kate Christy presented great insight on Health Communication. EHRs (electronic health records) are becoming more utilized to increase awareness using individual data. I was thinking of our SaferBadgers app while she was talking about this.
@PaytonBecker7#UWJ201 #311 I would use Instagram because it is the app I am most comfortable with and I believe used the most by younger generations. Instagram also has a semi-recent business feature that makes advertising and reaching out appear more professional than other platforms.
@elliemilius1#UWJ201 #311 I think that being generally up to date with slang and language is important. Whether it is connecting an advertisement to a popular song or a recent meme, it can help attract attention from viewers.
#UWJ201 #311 This week we discussed the peripheral route and central route in advertising. Which of these routes affect your life and exposure to information more?
@taraminor11#UWJ201 #311 Advertisers need the peripheral route to engage with more people on a lower caliber. Ads are still expensive and sometimes short ones that display the main point can be more effective on an audience than ads through the central route.
@christinejmary#UWJ201 #311 I think the central route can be used in advertising if the information is displayed with enticing visuals. People don’t often keep watching something unless there is a hook in the first 5 seconds.
#UWJ201 #311 In Monday's lecture Professor Wagner mentioned how it is difficult to gauge public opinion on issues and topics. What are ways that social media can help and/or harm this perception?
@marydaniels_@davalos#UWJ201 #311 Social media is so immediate and opinion-based, there is such little time for people to fact-check everything before posting a statement. This can lead to misconceptions in the general public opinion depending on what/who people are following.
@DanyalKMirza#UWJ201 #311 I personally think that Twitter and Instagram spread the most news. Twitter is so immediate and influencers tend to be very involved on it and Instagram spreads more detailed opinions based off of the news. I do not think Snapchat is very relied on for news.
#UWJ201 #311 The mirror model, as displayed in the lecture, is one of my favorites because it does present a reflection that leaves the audience to interpret. But, just as Professor Wagner pointed out, this offers some discrepancy over why/what is being highlighted.
@jcmchugh21#UWJ201 #311 You are right this is super interesting! It is really important to consider how the media creates an agenda-setting, and also how people create their own.
