It’s never been clearer: illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land are a significant obstacle to peace.

There can be no two-state solution if there is no viable state left to call Palestine.

That’s why the UK Government is right to take strong action and impose a ban on trade in goods from these settlements.

With plans for more illegal settlements - and settlers currently inflicting terrible violence against Palestinians on a daily basis with impunity - it’s heartening to see the international community joining the UK in taking a stand and applying more pressure on Israel to recognise and respect the rights of Palestinians.

Israel has just banned me from entering.

Given that this is a fascist government presiding over genocide, apartheid and an illegal occupation, I’ll wear it as a badge of honour.

The disgrace is that Andy Burnham, Ed Miliband and this Labour government continue to arm, trade and cooperate with a state committing genocide against Palestinians.

One day, I look forward to visiting Jerusalem not as an occupied city, but as part of a free and liberated Palestine - a single state with equal rights for all, where Palestinians enjoy the freedom, dignity and equality that have been denied to them for far too long.
