I'm posting this here again. That Web3 demands artists lobby constantly for their art is not natural and is mentally unhealthy. To assume that they need to be screaming out on social media to "show their commitment" is detrimental to the practice of being an artist. If an artists prioritizes their mental health and their art practice over being on social media blasting posts should be championed, not punished. WTF!

Everyone is A Sellout Now…

This rings absolutely true to web3. I had to do it so much back in 2020 and 2021 to be “seen” and then collected that I came out of it with a bit of ptsd. I had amassed a 19 year career with 27 books, hundreds of exhibitions, museum collections bought my art, hours of research, teaching and lecturing worldwide only to find myself I was absolutely nobody in web3 because I wasn’t an influencer and willing to sell my soul to the digital void. Fellowship and ObscuraDAO came from that experience. I felt no artist should have to deal with this and that they would be better off just doing art in their caves, pushing, experimenting, taking risks in the art and not on what they “post” to get engagement.

The whole world is upside down at times. Talented artists aren’t seen or collected in web3 because they were not here early, because they are not 24/7 shouting out nonsense to be seen and collected, or because they are not willing to “build community.”

The art is the community!!! This is how art survives. How are all the old masters still so important? Because of the art gathering people around it willing to teach it, write about it and yes, collect it… but it’s the art that survives and accrues value… everything else is just hype and fomo and will inevitably fade away.

Art is Art because it is Art.
