On Sept 19, ARCTERYX hosted a permitted fireworks display at 5,500m in the Himalayas—calling it art. But let’s be clear: this was not art, it was an act of environmental disregard and cultural disrespect. The explosion introduced noise, chemicals, and debris into one of Earth’s most fragile ecosystems and a spiritually significant Tibetan region. Permission doesn’t mean ethical.
The mountains are not a marketing stage.

#Arcteryx@Arcteryx, the premium outdoor brand under the Anta Group, collaborated with artist #CaiGuoQiang (#蔡国强) to create a #fireworks art project in Relong Township, Gyantse County, #Xizang on September 19, 2025.
The event, which featured a dragon-shaped landscape created by explosives on the mountain ridge, was called a "tribute to nature." Still, it sparked online outcry due to the risk of ecological damage to the plateau.
