Had a great time building LeLamp from @humancomplab last night!
Super cool robot and fun kit experience. If you guys haven’t seen it already you should check it out.
P.S. @SarkaryShahvir I’d love to pilot 🙏
Last night, we closed off Symposium week by bringing the Pixar lamp to life.
Akatos guest @SarkaryShahvir and the @humancomplab team assembled and tested LeLamps at our house.
Waterloo, Socratica, and the world…
what a week, thank you for everything.
To build an animated robot that's full of life, we are trying to understand how springiness and damping can be invoked on our robot (ex. when you touch it to say hello!).
Some early examples of how we are using current control to do this @humancomplab
robots and games have not crossed paths - so we ran an experiment where LeLamp became the controller to play a simple version of space invaders
we map the motor position to the 3d environment and use mechanics that already exist to do things like reloading
@humancomplab
Robotics is hard. Things are always breaking. Like a living thing that refuses to behave.
It’s a systems problem. You’re making mechanics, electronics, firmware, software, motion, power, heat, etc. orchestrate together at an abstraction which should feel natural for human interaction .
Despite that, it is deeply rewarding and the mission becomes clearer - to make something truthful, sincere and masterful.
Building with these principles as mental model has helped me evolve both as a builder and human.
At @humancomplab I'm bringing artists, animators and engineers to understand how can we reshape our attachment to technology.
Pilots for LeLamp will start in 2026. Some things will break as most hardware does in its early days, but it will be the glimpse of a world where magic can exist as I always imagined it to.
@tbpn featured LeLamp!
also $50 is the pre-order deposit, full price will be ~$399. Stripe defaults to hide the description, especially on mobile. I have edited our order title so there is no confusion for anyone ordering LeLamp.
Human Computer Lab is now backed by @southpkcommons and @FR8.
We are researching and building expressive robots.
Our journey will be long, and this marks the start.
Today we are opensourcing a new design for LeLamp.
We made a video explaining our process. From sketch to simulation in 14 days.
There will be more updates in the coming weeks. We are constantly iterating and aiming to create the best experience for building expressive robots.

For the past 3 weeks, we have been building a real life Pixar lamp.
After receiving a lot of questions from the community, I decided to make a brief video explaining the entire process behind LeLamp, from design to simulation.
