Killing animals is never the solution. It’s neither effective nor humane. That’s why we’ve spent decades developing safe and effective spay/neuter programs to protect street dogs and community cats around the world.

🏆 Proud moment for animal-free science!
We're delighted to share that @Francesca Pistollato, Senior Program Director in Biomedical Science at Humane World for Animals, has been honored with a @LAV Animal Award in the Researchers & Innovators category, selected by a public online vote.
The award recognizes her commitment to promoting innovative and animal-free science with the aim of advancing more ethical, predictive, and humane biomedical research across the globe.
Accepting the award at the ceremony held on May 29 in Rome, Francesca said: 🗣️"This recognition highlights the importance of transitioning to animal-free science in research, which is based on human biology. To accelerate the adoption of these methods, a cultural transformation is needed."
Every year, an estimated 190 million animals are used in research and testing worldwide. Non-animal methods can be faster, less expensive, and more relevant to human health outcomes. That's the future we're working toward, and recognition like this keeps us moving forward.
Congratulations, Francesca! 🎉

Did you know? Since 2006, EU laws say animal tests should be a 'last resort.' Yet regulators still request them—on mice, rats, fish, even pregnant rabbits—when animal-free methods exist.
Follow our #TestedForNothing series for more findings + how we're fixing this at the root.
Comment “YES” or “NO”: did you know EU rules say animal tests should be a “last resort”?

Our Spanish @FurFreeAlliance colleagues ARDE Global have just filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office in A Coruña after an undercover investigation revealed horrific conditions on a mink farm in Abegondo.
Sadly, we are, however, not shocked by the images. Time and again investigations on fur farms, including ones like these that hold the industry's 'WelFur' #animalwelfare certification, expose the severe suffering of animals kept for fur production. It is not just a few rotten eggs. The industry is rotten to its core. Confining species like mink to small wire cages is simply inherently inhumane.
It is insane with all the evidence against fur farming, including the European Food Safety Authority's scientific opinion on the issue, that Commissioner @OliverVarhelyi is still even considering proposing animal welfare standards for animals on fur farms.
Let it be clear. The only way to end the suffering of mink, foxes, raccoon dogs and chinchillas is to introduce a full ban and phase-out of all fur farming in the EU. This is also what the 1.5+ million citizens who signed the #FurFreeEurope #ECI demanded. 👉🏻 https://t.co/1k0eJQRYkB

Recognizing the signs of pet grief is the first step toward helping them heal.
With patience, stability and care, we can support our animals as they navigate loss in their own way. ❤️
#HumaneWorld
Grief doesn’t belong to humans alone.
Pets can mourn deeply after the loss of a caregiver or companion and their pain often shows through changes in behavior, health and routines 🐾
We’re pleased to announce that, together with other NGOs, we contributed to a new EU regulation that will strengthen the @EU_ECHA’s work on chemical safety and prioritize animal-free science in chemical testing.
The @Europarl_EN has adopted the regulation, and it has now moved to the next phase of the legislative process.
We have boots on the ground to ensure these commitments turn into real progress!

When the former fur industry CEO tells you fur farming is "inherently cruel" and should be banned — it's time to listen.
@Mike_R_Moser spent over a decade defending the fur industry at the highest levels. Then he saw a fox, one among thousands, caged, broken, and resigned to its fate. And he walked away.
Now he's calling for an EU fur farming ban with science, economics, and ethics by his side pointing all in the same direction.
Will the @EU_Commission and @OliverVarhelyi listen to experts such as Mike?

🌍 Biodiversity is the delicate balance that keeps our planet alive and every species plays a vital role in protecting it.
From elephants in South Africa to sharks in Australia, our work spans continents and ecosystems to help animals live free from cruelty, exploitation and suffering.
🐘 In Africa, we work to protect elephants from trophy hunting and care for rescued chimpanzees in Liberia.
🦜 In Central America, we support the rescue and rehabilitation of animals affected by wildlife trafficking.
🐍 In India, we raise awareness about snakebite prevention and coexistence with snakes.
🦊 In Europe, we campaign to end fur farming and protect millions of animals from suffering.
🦈 In Australia, we advocate for stronger protections for sharks and marine life.
These are only some of the projects we carry out around the world every day to defend animals and preserve biodiversity for future generations.
Because protecting animals means protecting the future of our planet. 💚
Wildlife is essential for the health of our planet. 🌍
Every species plays a unique role in maintaining balanced ecosystems. Predators like wolves and lynxes help regulate prey populations, while animals such as rhinos and giraffes shape habitats and support biodiversity through seed dispersal. Scavengers like vultures help stop the spread of disease by cleaning up carcasses in the wild.
But these delicate ecosystems are under threat. Trophy hunting targets some of the world’s most iconic and vulnerable species, including lions, elephants, leopards, hippos and primates, disrupting social groups, weakening populations and reducing genetic diversity.
When key animals are removed from the wild, the consequences can affect entire ecosystems.
The EU remains the second largest importers of hunting trophies. By banning trophy imports, decision-makers have the opportunity to help protect endangered and vulnerable species for future generations.

We’re celebrating a major step towards a more ethical and responsible fashion industry! 🥳
The National Chamber of Italian Fashion (CNMI) has announced that it will no longer promote fur at any official Milan Fashion Week events or in its communications, including on social media. Furthermore, starting from the Autumn 2026 edition, it will invite brands not to present clothing, accessories or any other items featuring fur during the fashion shows. You can read more here: https://t.co/Z5iAtYZbgf
This is the result of a joint effort: Humane World for Animals worked side by side with LAV and Collective Fashion Justice to secure this public commitment from CNMI.
Everyone who signed our petition to end fur farming in Europe is also helping make this change possible, keeping European institutions focused on the future of fashion and animal protection.
Let’s continue to build a cruelty-free fashion industry together. 💙
Milan Fashion Week has taken a meaningful step forward by encouraging brands to remove animal fur from the runway - another sign that “the writing is on the wall” for the fur industry in Europe.
The new guidance from Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana was developed with input from Humane World for Animals, alongside Collective Fashion Justice and LAV, and marks a major shift from one of fashion’s last strongholds of fur.
While not an outright ban, the guidance makes clear that fur is no longer condoned at Milan Fashion Week, reflecting growing momentum across the fashion industry and the EU toward a fur-free future.
As Dr Joanna Swabe, Senior director of public affairs at Humane World for Animals Europe, explains in @voguemagazine's article, fur farming now has a very limited economic impact, while scientific evidence continues to expose the severe animal welfare problems inherent to fur production.
Momentum is building across the fashion industry and within the EU toward a fur-free future. The question now is: will the European Union follow with a market-wide ban on fur farming and sales?

Black rhinos are among the world’s most iconic, and most threatened, species. 🦏💔
Classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN Red List, black rhinos continue to face severe threats from poaching, habitat loss and trophy hunting.
Despite their vulnerable status, black rhinos are still targeted by trophy hunters, putting even more pressure on fragile populations already struggling to survive.
But these extraordinary animals are vital to their ecosystems. As herbivores, they help maintain healthy grasslands and support biodiversity across African landscapes.
Wild animals are worth far more alive than as trophies.

‘Important and timely article on the continuing horrors of fur farming - an industry that has long brutalised animals and now threatens human health as well. Yet another reason the EC must put forward the legislative proposal to ban the production and sale of fur in the EU’.

Most people across Asia do not eat dog or cat meat, yet millions of animals are still trapped in this trade every year.
Together, we can help end this cruelty through awareness, education and stronger animal protection laws.
🐶🐱 Stand with us to end the dog and cat meat trade worldwide. Share this to help raise awareness and drive change.
#HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty
Many animals in this trade are stolen pets or stray animals forced into horrific conditions, transported for days without food or water, confined in overcrowded cages and subjected to brutal slaughter.
But change is possible. Across Asia, public opposition to this cruelty is growing, and governments are beginning to act. In 2024, South Korea passed a landmark law to ban the dog meat industry by 2027, a major step forward for animal protection.
