You will miss studying when you get a job. You will miss the college days when you were just trying to understand what the professor taught in a lecture. You will miss that assignment, the one you cared to solve :)
Studying was super fun, just that we didn't like it back then.
Not every fight is worth fighting.
The sooner you understand this, the better your life will be. Your energy is finite. Use it well.
Win the battles that matter. Ignore the ones that do not.
LLMs are a great abstraction, and a very natural one. If you think about it, they are simply the next step in how we tell machines what to do.
Think about how far this chain already goes. You do not think about the machine code a compiler generates. You write high-level code in Python or Go and trust the layers below to handle the rest.
Similarly, an LLM is another layer of abstraction, and a non-deterministic one (at the moment). Hence, this does not mean you stop understanding what you are shipping. Correctness is still your responsibility.
So, use them to solve problems and ship great stuff, not slop
The tool changed, the responsibility did not.
Skills that have nothing to do with money but are worth dedicating an immense amount of practice to:
- Charisma
- Metacognition
- Critical thinking
- Sitting with discomfort
- Articulating what you believe and why
- Changing your beliefs when presented with new information
Almost nobody actually practices these and it shows.
